Following the commercial launch and flag off of the fifth Generation, 5G network evolution, the network in now available in about 81 Lagos communities and areas and can be accessed by 5G enabled devices.
The list of the communities were exclusively released to Hi-Tech by a reliable MTN source, according report by Vanguard.
The communities include:
Abijoh Village,
Abule Oja,
Aguda,
Ajao Estate,
Badore,
Chevron Estate,
Dolphin Estate Idi-Oro,
Ilupeju,
Langbasa,
Magboro,
Mushin,
Sabo Yaba,
Victoria Garden City among others. See table below for full list.
The 5G immersive capabilities can now be deployed by anyone in these communities to perform remote surgical operations, operate smart vehicle, do seamless virtual meeting and generally operate smart city projects, among other things, according to MTN source.
“Therefore, real time high quality communications and experiences can be achieved making downloading movies possible in seconds, for instance.
“This real time capacity is why it can be deployed for e-health, connected vehicles and traffic systems, smart home appliances, advanced mobile cloud gaming, workplace safety among others.”
A look at the list shows that most of the communities covered in this first phase are communities mainly located at Mainland, Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Lekki, Ajah, and other. MTN says they can now hook on to new services that can transform industries with ultra-reliable, available, low-latency links like remote control of critical infrastructure, vehicles, and medical procedures.
MTN source said, “these communities are lucky to be the first to move up the ladder. 5G has increased capacity of up to 100 times faster than 4G, meaning faster connectivity. It has low latency and greater bandwidth.
There are however, some communities and cities that are missing from the list such as Ketu, Ikorodu, Epe, Festac, Satellite Town and environs, down the Badagry axis, Apapa, Ajegunle.
Surprisingly, remote communities like Mushin, Oke ira nla, Magboro, Ajao Estate enjoy the 5G coverage now.
