HUSHPUPPI: Court Throws Out Suit Seeking Kayri's Extradition to U.S

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday, dismissed extradition application filed by the Federal Government seeking to extradite the suspended DCP Abba Kyari to the United States.

The presiding judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, in his rulling described the extradition request as “an abuse of court process” on the grounds that Mr Kyari was already standing a criminal trial before another court.

The attorney-general of the federation, Abubakar Malami, had in March filed the extradition suit, asking the court to grant the plea for Abba Kyari to face a criminal charge he was indicted of by the U.S. government. Many Nigerians including civil groups condemned AGF Malami for delaying the filing of Abba Kyari’s extradition suit until he (Kyari) was charged for another crime by NDLEA.

The United States of America government, through it Embassy in Nigeria had requested Nigerian government to allow Kyari to be  brought to the States to face trial on his alleged link with the international fraudster, Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is also prosecuting Kyari on drug trafficking allegations.

The U.S. court in Central District of California, Los Angeles, had recently fixed September 21 for  Hushpuppi’s sentencing.
