About Mo Ibrahim Leadership Fellowship

The Mo Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships which began in 2011 is a program organized for the purpose of identifying and mentoring the next generation of outstanding African leaders. 

Benefits of Mo Ibrahim Leadership Fellowship

For the past 11 years, 3 fellows are selected each year to work in the executive offices of the African Development Bank, AfDB (Abidjan), the Economic Commission for Africa, ECA (Addis Ababa), or the International Trade Center, ITC (Geneva) and are paid $100,000 stipend each.

Within the period, fellows receive technical and leadership, contribute directly to research and policy design during the 12-month programs, and receive direct mentorship from the heads of the organizations they are attached to.

After completion, Fellows can become members of the Now Generation Network (NGN),where they can continue to deploy their knowledge and abilities to improve Africa.

Eligibility criteria

To qualify the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be National of any of African countries
  •  Applicant should posse minimum of 7 years’ of relevant work experience
  • Has Master’s degree
  • Must be below the age of 40, or 45 for women with children
  • Any additional criteria as set by the host organization

How to Apply

Applications for the 2023 Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships are now open. It is open for young to mid-career professionals, and new executive across Africa with relevant work experience, and must have a Masters degree
