He however, accused the federal government aborting first plans by his family to secure his release from the bandits.

“Initially on Friday, members of our families wanted to facilitate our release but the government aborted the effort,” he said.

Othman, who was released on Monday alongside 2  others berated the government for failing to secure his release, he said “the government has a duty to protect our life and property but in that aspect the government has woefully failed.”

Mr Othman spent close to three months in bandit’s den before regaining his freedom through the efforts of his family.  He described his experience as terrible, and that other still in captivity were “dangerous” situations.

“Anything can happen” to them, and called on the international community to rescue them.
