The Nigeria Police has arraigned one, Baderinwa Waheed, 33,  for allegedly stealing an N-Power beneficiary’s five months stipends.

He was arraigned in Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’ Court on 3 count charge bothering on forgery, stealing and fraud.

According to the Police prosecutor, Olaolu Olayinka, the defendant committed the offences in March 2021 in Ado-Ekiti, where he conspired with another suspect Tiamiyu Salimot to commit a computer-related forgery and log into Adeola Olofin’s N-Power dashboard to defraud her.

Police alleged that the defendant and Ms Salimot changed Ms Olofin’s password, name and account number, thereby causing her to lose five months’ N-Power stipend calculated at N150,000.

The prosecutor stressed that the defendant had access to the victim’s N-Power details when the victim forwarded her N-Power login details to the defendant (Waheed) to help her check for messages, as her phone was faulty. But the defendant told the victim that there was no message.

According to him, the victim later discovered that the defendant hacked her account and diverted her details to his wife and collected Ms Olofin’s stipends for five months.

Chief magistrate Bankole Oluwasanmi, ordered the defendant to be  remanded in correctional centre pending advice from the office of the state director of public prosecutions.

He adjourned the case until June 20 for mention, and for defendant plea taking.
