President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government has appointed Mr Anamekwe Nwabuoku as the acting Accountant General of the Federation, to replace Ahmed Idris.
The appointment of Mr Nwabuoko was conveyed in a letter dated May 20th, 2022 and signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Aliyu Ahmed.
Bashir Ahmad, former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari also in a tweet confirmed Nwabuoku’s appointment.
“Mr. Anamekwe Chukwunyere Nwabuoku has been appointed to oversee the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, pending the outcome of the EFCC investigation of the suspended AGF, Ahmad Idris,” he said.
Nwabuoku is expected to carry out the duties of Accountant General of the Federation in acting capacity pending the outcome of EFCC investigation of the suspended AGF, Ahmed Idris. He is also expected to carry out his functions in strict compliance with extant rules and observe the highest sense of professionalism.
AGF, Ahmed Idris was suspended following his arrest by EFCC for allegedly siphoning N80 billion. He has been in custody of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as his investigation is still ongoing.
