The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos on his way to Houston, Texas in the United States after handing over to his successor, Governor Charles Soludo on Thursday.
Willie Obiano has been the ant-graft agency’s watchlist since November, 2021 but could arrest him as he was still enjoying his impunity.
The Nigeria Immigration Service has been on alert at the behest of EFCC to inform the agency anytime governor is travelling outside the country through the airport or any other point of entry and exit after completing his tenure as the governor of Anambra State.
Although the agency has not stated the reason for placing him on watchlist and arresting him, it may be that agency have been investigating the governor, and may have wind that he was planning to escape after stepping down as governor on March 16, 2022
