Former US President, Donald Trump has faulted the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and current US President, Joe Biden on Russian invasion of Ukraine, saying it was due to Biden's “weakness.”

He said this while speaking at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference held in Orlando, Florida.

Mr. Trump commended Vladimir Putin for his intelligence, calling him “smart guy”.

“The problem is not that Putin is smart, which of course he’s smart, but the real problem is that our leaders are so dumb,” the former US President said

Trump lambasted NATO and it allies for slamming Russia with sanctions instead of appealing to their conscience, thereby worsening the situation.

“looking the opposite of smart” for hitting Russia with sanctions rather than resolving to “blow (Russia) to pieces at least psychologically.”

He said this wouldn’t have happened if he was the president, maintaining that the lection that brought Joe Biden into power was rigged in favour of Biden.

“As everyone understands, this horrific disaster would never have happened, if our election was not rigged,” Trump said.

In a pool released on Friday by the Harvard Center for American Polical Studies (CAPS) Harris Poll 62% of Americans believed that Putin wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine, if Donald Trump was the American president, The Hill reported.

Whooping 85% of Republicans held the view, 38 percent of Democrats also held the same view. There view was that Putin had sensed weakness on the side of Biden.
