eNaira, Central Bank of Nigeria’s digital currency has continued to gain acceptance by Nigerians, mostly in the northern Nigeria.
Google search trends show that Nigerians with much interest in the eNaira reside in the Northeast, Northwest Nigeria with Borno State leading with 100% score, followed by Sokoto, Gombe and Zamfara States.
These leading states in the adoption of eNaira wallet are states with more unbanked Nigerians. One the reason for the introduction of eNaira in Nigeria’s economy is for financial inclusion of rural areas, unbanked and underbanked individuals which have not been captured by the existing banking system.

Unexpectedly Lagos, the commercial centre of the Africa’s most populous country alongside other major states didn’t make the top 25 list.
Rivers State tops in the southern Nigeria with perfect 100 score, followed by Lagos with a distant 17 score points.
Also, 10 banks are leading in eNaira wallet active accounts. GTB is leading in overall number active of consumer adoption, while Ecobank is leading in merchant adoption.
