Southerners are Insensitive to Killings in the North – Fani-Kayode

Former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has accused southerners of being insensitive to the killings in Zamfara and other parts of the North by bandits

“I call on the people of the South to begin to show more sensitivity about what is going on in the North-West and particularly Zamfara State. Because they don’t talk about it enough,” Mr Fani-Kayode said.

The controversial politician made this statement when he visited Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle, on Tuesday.

“If what is happening in this state were to happen in any state in the south, I know the outrage they would have expressed throughout the media. But because its in Zamfara, because it is in North-West few talk about it. Its only the people that are hear that feel the pain,” he added.

On the contrary, many media platforms (both main stream and new media) have consistently reported the insecurity in the northern region, where bandits activities make headlines almost everyday.

However, barely three days after it was reported that bandits raided the communities in Zamfara and killed over 200 people, displacing many others, the Coalition of Northern Activists for Peace (CNAP), who are the supposed victims mobilised youths in protest to counter the narrative that north is insecure and “bleeding.”

Youths mobilised by CNAP and led by Zubairu Mukhtar, were seen on the streets of Kaduna, chanting and holding placards with the inscription “North is not bleeding”, “North is healing.”

‘North is bleeding’ is a social media campaign championed by citizens to draw the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari and the international community to the bloodbath and incessant killings perpetrated by bandits and Boko Haram terrorists in the north.
