Webometrics has released the list of top 20 universities in Nigeria. List is made up  of 14 federal universities, 4are state universities, 2 privately owned university.

University of Ibadan (UI) ranked first, while Federal University of Technology, Owerri ranked 20.

Covenant University, a privately owned university ranked 2nd. It also made the list of world universities rankings.

The ranking was based on academic excellence especially on research and innovative, and is aimed at promoting academic web presence and to facilitate the Open Access initiative.
