Unknown Gunmen Bomb Police Station in Imo, Two Dead

Unknown gunmen has attacked and boom police station in Njiaba Local Government Area of Imo State.

The IMO State Police Command, on Saturday confirmed the attack.

According to the issued by the Public Relations Officer of the State Command, CSP Mike Abattam, the attack took place in the early hours of Saturday by armed men suspected to be IPOB's Eastern Security Network (ESN).

He said that on July 31 at about 1:20 am, armed men moving in a convoy towards Njiaba town to launch an attack were intercepted by the men of the Operation Restore Peace team of the Nigeria Police in Imo State. While the were engaged in gun battle, two of them were killed, one of their operational vehicles were destroyed. The gunmen detonated an Improvised Explosive Devices into the parking lots of  a nearby Njiaba Police Station, destroying vehicles and some parts of the building.

“They detonated an Improvised Explosive Devices into the parking lots of a nearby Njiaba Police Station, causing minimal damage,” he said.

Abattam said while searching the vehicle used by the  gunmen, one AK47 rifle with ten rounds of live Ammunition and a locally made double barrel pistol with two expended carriages were recovered.

He assured that suspects will be brought to book as cordon and search operation was ongoing in the area to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
