Senate on Tuesday rejected the nomination of Buhari's aide, Lauretta Onochie as INEC national commissioner

The Senate has rejected the nomination of Lauretta Onochie as INEC national commissioner.

According to the Chairman Senate Committee on INEC, Sen. Kabiru Gaya, Onochie's nomination was against Federal character principle. The Committee unanimously voted against her nomination. Members of the Senate in same matter unanimously adopted the recommendation of the committee.

This is the second time Sentence is rejecting her name.

Senate had rejected her nomination as INEC national commissioner in 2020 on the ground that she was card carrying member of a political party, the All Progressive Congress. Buhari resubmitted her name to Senate for confirmation.

During the screening last week Onochie denied being a member of any political party.

Lauretta is a Special Assistant to the President Muhammedu Buhari on New Media.
