Only First-class, Second Class Upper graduates Will Be Employed As Teachers - FG


The Federal Government has announced that only those with first-class and Second class upper certificates will be employed as teachers starting from 2021.

The Perm Sec, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono announced this on Saturday, November, 2020 in Abuja while inspecting the ongoing Teachers' Professional Qualifying Examinations, PQE Batch B, October 2020 Diet.

He said there is need to have the best brains in the classroom with good salaries, maintaining that those who are unqualified that are already in the teaching profession will be migrated out of the profession. He said the President has given matching order in actualizing it. 

“We must enforce Mr.  President’s directive that only qualified teachers will be allowed into our classrooms. The Professional Qualifying Examinations is going on smoothly across 34 states and the feedback has been good. 

“By 2021, we will not engage teachers if they don’t meet the particular threshold, we are now limiting entry point of teaching only to the best who are qualified. We will engage individuals with second class upper and first class divisions. They will get better remuneration with peculiar allowances. National Salaries and Wages Commission is finalizing the figures with education agencies” he said.

He concluded that they will make arrangements for conversion programmes for people who have these categories of results of results from other fields through NTI and TRCN to learn pedagogy, methodology to be employed to teach.
