Imo State Government Commences Empowerment Of 500,000 Youths With N6b Grant


“In this regard the 5000 Imo Youths who have already been trained in different skills are to be given their start up capital very soon. The ministry will work out the details for this in addition to the time table for other training sessions.”

 Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has announced his government’s plans to train and empower 500,000 Imo State youths with the sum of N6,000,000,000 in the next 2 years under Imo State Youths Empowerment and Intervention Programme, IMYEIP.

He said this while addressing the state residents in Saturday, 24th October, 2020 to quell the #ENDSARS protests and the violence that followed the protests. He appealed to the youths to disembark on the protest and embrace peace as his government is committed to improving the lives and livelihoods of the youth through job creation and empowerment. 

"My esteemed Imo Youths, you will recall that during my interface with you, I assured you of a dedicated empowerment package as part of my administration’s determination to address your needs,” the Governor said

The Governor stated that 5,000 youths had already been trained and would receive their start up grant in no distant time, as he has directed for immediate release of first tranche of 2 billion Naira.

Program is expected to train and give start up funds to the 500,0000 beneficiaries in three batches for the next 2 years. The program will officially take off on 27th of October, 2020

"I am glad to announce to you therefore that my government has approved an immediate release of a takeoff fund of N2,000,000,000.00 (Two Billion Naira) out of N6,000,000,000 (Six Billion Naira) earmarked for an accelerated youth empowerment programme. 

"The N2,000,000,000.00 (Two Billion Naira) take off fund will be deployed for the training of the first batch of the beneficiaries of this scheme which will commerce next week.

"The programme will train in the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Batches, an estimated number of 500, 000 (Five Hundred Thousand), Imo youths in different skills acquisition programmes within the next two years, and provide them with start up capital to begin their own enterprises."
